The beautiful mess at Die Messe_A joyful journey at Schmuck 2012_days 2/3

Although I’m very fond on whatever could be considered “contemporary”, I must confess I always miss “my” old masters’ paintings. I consider them (both the authors and their works) as old friends and, it’s for this reason that, the next day I went to see two “Albrechts”  at the ALTE PINAKOTHEK.….

…I couldn’t miss the date!!

ALBRECHT  DÜRER, Self portrait, 1500, oil on panel

He painted himself at the age of 30, in 1500, a crucial century for art history and for that time; he painted himself as Salvator Mundi probably becuse he wanted to emphasize the importance of ART on life through the times…MAGNIFICENT!!!! A self-portrait which conveys the northern Renaissance and opens  a new window beyond the Alps.

ALBRECHT ALTDORFER, The Battle of Issus,1529

Painted in 1529 and commissioned to Altdorfer by the Duke Wilhelm IV of Bavaria, the painting sets the image during the battle if Issus between Alexander The Great and Empereor Darius III in 333 b.C. .Altdorfer, headmaster of the Danube school, painted this astonishing oeuvre from an extremely high point of view, giving importance to the landascape and, above all, to this apocalyptic sky: unforgettable.
